Everything Since January

2. July 2008 | Category News | 0 Comments »

Hi everyone.

It’s Zoe. I’m back from my nap. I can’t believe that we are 6 months into the new year already. It’s also been almost a year since we moved into our new building and it’s been fantastic. There are so many things for my sisters Ziggy and Dallas and their friends to do everyday that they can’t even decide what to do first. Of course “I DON’T PLAY” so it’s not that hard of a decision for me. We had the swimming pools out a few times already this year and it was a blast for all involved. Of course “I DON’T SWIM” but I was told it was a blast.

When you come in, be sure to check out our lobby for the new and interesting toys and things that my mom brings in weekly. She also looks for the best treats and dog foods that will keep your canine kids begging for more. Of course “I DON’T BEG” but I do get to sample almost everything that comes in. If there is anything you would like Mom to bring in just let her know. If she can get it, she will.

Of course, more dogs mean more employees so we have added 4 new permanent members to our staff. They are: Sarah Koch, Jolee Falcone, Patti Smith, and Tyler Capenos. We have other additions as well. Jen has hired a new groomer to make it more convenient for everyone. Her name is Dawn Delaney. Thanks to Dawn , it is no longer necessary to wait weeks to get in to see the groomer. Back for the summer are our old favorites Lindsey Gerber, Gabe Allidi and Jenda Kwiatkowski and making her summer debut at Canines Unleashed is Abby Delzer.

Since January, we have had 84 new dogs. Please help me in welcoming to our Canines Unleashed family……Jake, Trixie, Badger M, Lulu, Penny, Flip, Janey, Buddy L, Maggie H, Maggie Smith, Maggie Scarlett, Maggie F, Maggie J, Dakota Rae, Tucker S, Poppyseed, Milo, Toby & Maggie H, Roscoe, Katie, Kramer & Mikko, Cassie, Abby R, Parker, Cody, Kaya Belle, Jasper, George, Gucci, Puck, Baxter C., Charlie, Norman, Haley, Lola, Rocko D, Chloe , Melek & Honey, Molly Gates, Shelby R, Scooby, Bella S, Sammi, Harley D, Kenzi, Mickey, Kelly, Oreo, The “Goold Kids” (Milo,Wyatt, Sophia, & Zeus), Earl, Gracie C, Dakota O, Lucie, Kramer, Melvin, Mack, Lucy R, Lily, Jock & J.R., Swayne, Roxy B, Jasmine, Lexie S, Josie, Oliver, Riley S, Ella, Midnight, Moka, Taylor, Tupper, Nutmeg, Rocky R, Leroy, and Crux.

In the midst of all these additions in staff and clients, the Small Business Administration (SBA) awarded us with the prestigious Excellence in Business Award and we were also on a television show called Business Close-up on WCNY. To see the show and our daycare in action go to our website, click on the Special Events page and click the link to watch the T.V. show that features many of our dogs.

Lastly, Mom, Dad, Ziggy and Dallas and I are taking off for vacation at the end of the week. We are going back to the place where Ziggy fell off the cliff (see the blog from August of last year). Mom is going to be extra careful this time and I hope Ziggy learned from her mistakes because they paid too much attention to her last year and those of you who have met me know that everything should be all about me. After all, how many dogs do you know that are C.E.O (Canine Executive Officer) of a fabulous company and also have their own blog?

I will write about our vacation in my next blog when I get back. In the meantime, why don’t you write me about some fun things you’ve done or intend to do on your summer vacation? Just click on “comments” at the top and scroll down to the boxes to write on the blog.

Until next time, this is Zoe with all the poop……errr scoop from Canines Unleashed.

Blog, blog, blogblog, blog…. (sigh)

23. June 2008 | Category News | 0 Comments »

Hi All – Zoe here.

It’s been a while since we’ve talked. I’m sorry about that. Mom and Jen keep on telling me I have to get to work and blog more often but it’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks. Do they think I have nothing better to do than blog all day? I get up at 5:00 am every morning, stretch, go out to do (you know what), come in and eat, round up my sisters and go to Canines Unleashed. Then I start my early morning nap while mom helps the crew to set up and enter dogs while Ziggy and Dallas start playing. (Playing is for regular dogs – I’m special – “I DON”T PLAY”) About 9am it’s time to get up and stretch some more and walk around the facility to make sure everything is going well and everyone is doing what they should be doing, and then its time for my mid morning nap. About noon I get up and Mom and I either go home for a while so I can nap or we’ll run errands to places where dogs can go. Then, when we get back, it’s time for my afternoon nap. It’s usually a long one cause I am tired from all the activity of the morning (snicker, snicker). Before I know it, its time to gather my sisters and go home to eat and ….(you guessed it) go to bed for the night.

Now I ask you…….. With that kind of a jam packed day, when do they think I will have time to write a blog ?????

Okay , Okay, (Yawn) let me take a nap and get my thoughts together and I will be back within the next couple of days with some info on what we have been doing at Canines Unleashed. I’m sooo tired. This is Zoe signing off with all the………Zzzz, Zzzzz, Zzzz

Another Record Breaking Year

12. January 2008 | Category News | 0 Comments »

Hi Everyone !

This is Ann, the founder of Canines Unleashed. Zoe is a little under the weather so I will be writing the blog for her this time.

Well, the holidays and our busy season (August - December) are finally behind us. I would like to say a big “THANK-YOU”, not only from myself but also from my staff, for all the Christmas goodies & gifts that so many of you gave to us. I have always told my staff that the Canines Unleashed customers are the most loyal and generous bunch of people I have ever met. Please know that all of us really do appreciate all the gifts, cards, and well wishes that seem to come our way not only at Christmas, but all year long as well.

Speaking of all year - It’s been a very busy one. By now you all know that we moved into our beautiful new building in August (although it is still a work in progress). Thanks for sticking with us while we worked out the kinks of the new facility. Our busy season, (Aug - Dec) both in daycare and off-site shows and publicity, coupled with the move, have kept us unbeleivably on the go every minute of every day since August. January traditionally slows down but we haven’t seen any sign of that yet.

Please help me in welcoming the record number of 81 new dogs since Zoe’s last post in August. Welcome to: Max M., Roxi H., Boscoe & Kayla (sadly, Kayla wasn’t with us very long before she passed away - we will miss her greatly), Brady & Truman, Kayla K., Harley, Pebbles, Tyson, Baxter, Riley W., Reeve, Nugget, Babe, Lily C., Archy, Bailey Samhammer, Bailey Simiele, Caz, Zoey, Sonya & Daisy, Charlie, DJ, Maggie R., Bella L., Hank, Sam V., Helena, Cinder, Lucy, Trey, Oscar G., Harley I., Georgia, Macy M., Chow, Snowflake, Marlynn, Abby M., Busta & Tinker, Gabby, Riley M., Jacobie, Puck, Henry, Brinkley, Riva, Rocky, Frankie T., Tootsie, Roxy L., Bailey E., Toby S., Lou Lou, Buddy P., Jack H., Mocha, Shelby, Hazel, Kohana, Scruffi, Lucky R., Sadie R., Mhia & Scottie, Bentley, Judge, Blue, Bonnie, Pippin, Maddy Mitchell, Marley & Kendall, Shadow, Gryphon, Callie Mae, Nolan, and last but not least Lucky D.

We are re-stocking our retail area after a big Christmas sell-out so look for new and exciting products in the months to come as well as the reappearance of our oldies but goodies. We are also anticipating adding a couple of new foods to our line so if there is something you would like us to carry, food or otherwise, please let us know and we will see if it is possible.

We plan on hunkering down for the winter in the next couple of months with no “extra curricular” activities (aka: off site shows). Spring will be here before we know it (hopefully), so keep warm and thanks again for another record setting wonderful year at Canines Unleashed. We couldn’t do it without all of you and we thoroughly enjoyed getting to know and love all of your dogs.

As always, please feel free to blog us back and let us know what you think about anything. We’d love to hear from you.

Zoe will be back on the next blog, but for now it’s Ann here with all the poop….err…..scoop from Canines Unleashed.

Busy Summer and the New Building

20. August 2007 | Category News | 0 Comments »

Hi to All!!!

Boy, have we had a busy summer! The first thing that happened was that my little sister came to live with us in May. Everybody just fawns all over her and thinks she’s soooo bee-utiful. Her name is Dallas ’cause she came from Texas. BIG DEAL !! (I don’t like her much-can you tell?) It’s not so hard coming from Texas. Try coming from Rochester in January like me! Anyway, Dallas came to live with me and my sister Ziggy, so now there are 3 of us. I hope mom doesn’t get any more “bright ideas” for a while. Dad says that 3 Danes in 1 house are 2 Danes too many, so I think I am safe for a while. I agree with him – and I was there first.

In June Mom, Dad, my sisters and I went on vacation to Keuka Lake for 2 weeks of boating and swimming and fun in the sun before the big anticipated move into the new building. I don’t much like to swim, but I was born to boat. I love the feeling of the wind blowing through my ears. (Mom says I’m dramatic!) Everything was going well at the cottage and we were on one of our morning walks when Ziggy decided to wander off. Before we could get to her she fell off a cliff about 150 ft down and into a gorge with rocks and water below. Mom went crazy. We couldn’t see or hear Ziggy at all ’cause it was too far down. 911 was called and in the meantime dad went down and around by car trying to find the bottom of the gorge. He went into some woods and climbed over rocks and hills and down small cliffs and followed the stream till he found her. She had one deep cut in one paw and was really scared but no other apparent injuries. She was so scared that dad had to carry her out which was about a mile or more back to the car. If anything ever happens to me I want my dad there to rescue me! Mom said it was a miracle that she was still alive, much less didn’t break any bones or anything. But don’t think for a minute that she didn’t play it up to her advantage for sympathy. Mom wouldn’t leave her side for a minute and gave her extra attention and treats for days—– H-E-L-L-O— Did everyone forget that she ran off in the first place and that’s why she fell? W-H-A-T-E-V-E-R !!!!!!!!

Well, we are finally in our new building. It is soooo big. I even have my very own corner office with a view right next to my mom’s, but sometimes I get lonely and sneak into hers when she’s working at her desk. I really don’t like to be alone all that much. We have so much more room here. The little dogs have their own room and their own yard so now I don’t have to be careful not to step on them. Our playrooms are gigantic and our yard is HUUUMONGOUS! We have a lot more climbing equipment and pools and toys so nobody has to wait and take turns anymore. All my friends are having even more fun than they did at the other building – and I didn’t think that was possible.

Our first day in our new building was….. interesting to say the least. The lights and the power went out, it was in the 90’s and the air conditioning broke, the phones didn’t work and the sink sprung a leak in the break room. My friends and I were so excited with all the extra room that we were running crazy exploring every inch of this place and it was really hard for the girls to catch us. Mom and Jen didn’t look too happy, but we had a blast. Unfortunately for us, the girls are catching on to the new building and we all have to behave again. It was fun while it lasted.

We have had 40 new dogs since my last post in March. Please help me to welcome Otis & Mickey, Boomerang, Sandy, Rhea, Colden, Dakota M, Bear B., Pumpkin, Tai Shan, Kauai, Enzo, Jenny, Cali, Sophie M, Harley, Teddy, Wodin, Romeo & Duke, Jenny M, Lily C., Geha, Harley K., Zoe C., Mazie, Gus, Atticus, Lola, Dooley, Tucker J., Chef, Doolittle, Lola & Zakk, Jeter V., Max & Ruby, Edgar, and Sally.

Thank-you to all who donated things for the building and helped with our move. A special thanks to Sue and Paul Allidi who helped out tremendously and didn’t even get any pizza.

Sorry it’s been so long since my last post. I’ll try to do better. In the meantime, keep checking back on our facilities page. We hope to have the pictures of the new building up soon. And we have some upcoming events too. Please feel free to post on my blog. Let me know what you think about the new building or about Canines Unleashed in general, or anything at all. I look forward to hearing from you. Till then that’s all the poop … errrr…… scoop from Canines Unleashed.

Happy Spring

27. March 2007 | Category News | 1 Comment »

Hi Everyone - it’s me, Zoe. HAPPY SPRING!!!!! We finally got through the winter. I have noticed, though, that all the new puppies are quite confused now that most of the snow is gone in the yards. It is quite amusing to watch as they search for that one little patch of snow to “go” on. I should probably break it to them that soon even the last little spot will be gone, but for now it’s too much fun to watch them look for the snow. HEE HEE HEE!!!! (You would think at my age that I’d be more mature!)

Well, speaking of new puppies, we have had a record number 37 new dogs join us in 2007 and it’s only March. Welcome to :

Buster, Dolce, Bailey P., Louie, Dakotah, Cooper O., Billy, Kodi L., Bailey W., Sophie, W., Dottie, Lilly, Daisy F., Storm B., Daisy G., Virgil, Gracie M., Sailor & Sassy, Tanner, Daisy M., Roxy N., Suka, Gibson, Marley P., Ruby, Jerry Lee, Rhys, Bozley, Duster, Harlan, Bailey D., Sophie & Sam, Diesel, Cera, & Richie.

We have had a very productive (and famous) last couple of months of the year. As most of you know, we were on T.V. recently - not once, but twice. Kelly McPherson of Channel 9’s Morning Show did a 2 hour broadcast “LIVE” from Canines Unleashed. We opened at 5 am that morning to accommodate the show. Thanks to all who got their dogs here early and a special thanks to Bogey’s mom Beth Manzene and Rowdy’s dad Tom VanKuren for doing interviews with Kelly. Mom held her breath for the entire 2 hours that we were on live television but everyone was on their best behavior. Well, until the end when Kelly was signing off and Biff decided it would be a good idea to jump into Kelly’s face for the final shot. I gotta admit though, it was great television. Hahahahahah!!!

Then Mom was in a “Reality T.V. Show” contest for small business owners. Another camera crew came in and followed us around for the day to make a taped piece for the show. Mom made it through many rounds in the show - letter writing, interviews, and so on and we did make it to T.V., but we lost in the semi-final round. Too bad, ’cause the $50,000 grand prize
would have bought a lot of bones. Of course, Mom was gonna use it to buy a new building for us but I still think “bones” would have been the way to go. A special thank-you to Buttons for starring in our taped piece and to Otto whose picture was selected as our backdrop on the show. Thank-you all for your support of my Mom on the show and your kind words to her after she lost, uh, I mean after she was eliminated. It was much appreciated ’cause, as they say, “When Mama ain’t happy - ain’t nobody happy !!!!!”

We are really bursting at the seams here with all the new dogs coming in and we are regrettably having to turn away drop-ins at least 2-3 days a week now, so make sure you call and get your reservations in a day in advance to be assured a spot.

As some of you know, we were counting on moving into the Jack of Hearts building a couple of doors down to alleviate the crowding problem that we are having, but unfortunately that didn’t work out. So, we are now anxiously on the look-out for another bigger and better facility. We will let you know when we find it.

The lobby is once again full with our new Springtime toys. Be sure to take a look around. Keep checking back on our special events webpage for the spring pet shows and walks that will be coming up starting in May.

One more new feature of my blog is that you can now talk back to me! Just click on the word “comments” near the title of the post you want to comment on, then scroll to the bottom of that post and type away. You don’t even have to enter your name or email address - you can just write your comment and then click “submit” and it will be anonymous. I can’t wait to hear all your comments, suggestions, or questions!

This is Zoe signing off till next time with all the poop……Errr… Scoop from Canines Unleashed.

Happy Holidays

1. December 2006 | Category News | Comments Off

Hi Everyone !

It’s me Zoe. It’s been a while since my last post. I have been very busy this fall in my job here as C.E.O……….(Canine Executive Officer).

In September & October you may have come to visit my Mom, Jen & I at one of our weekend shows. We did the SPCA walk at Longbranch Park, The Paws Along the Erie Canal Festival, The Canine Companion show at the Burdick Auto Mall, and of course our biggest show of the year.. The Junior Achievement Holiday Shoppes at the fairgrounds. That one was not my favorite show. Mom was working at the Fairgrounds for 4 days straight and I missed her. I couldn’t go to that one cause for some reason dogs were not allowed to come…………..W-H-A-T-E-V-E-R…………….

We have had all my dog friends coming to C.U. in record numbers this fall. Besides all of my regular friends, we have had 25 new dogs start in the past couple of months.

I would personally like to welcome: Storm, Timber, Owen, Barney, Daisy H, Molly R, Yogi, Sawyer, Jack, Max, Casper, Frasier, Zoe B (Luv that name), Scout, Bella, Leila, Sentry, Lennox, Ace, Rocco L, Casey W, Maddie, Morris, Meika, and Sandor. We are all having a great time together.

December should be fun too! Mom has her camera out again & is in the midst of our Christmas Holiday Photos. I hope you will all be happy with the results. The Lobby is full of new holiday toys & decorations which is always fun. And I can’t wait till our annual Christmas Party on Dec 10th. All of my friends get to show off their parents and its always great fun. This year’s party promises to be bigger and better than ever with so many of my new friends coming and bringing their families. And to end the year in style we will be having our 3rd annual New Years Eve Slumber Party complete with party hats and ………..(you guessed it) ……. PICTURES !!!!!!!!

It’s been a wonderful year here at Canines Unleashed and Mom and I would like to thank all of you for helping us to make this the BEST DARN DAYCARE in the Syracuse area !!!!!!!!

Have a happy holiday and hopefully we’ll see you all at the Christmas Party.

This is Zoe signing off with all the poop……..Errr……….Scoop from Canines Unleashed.

Welcome to our new website!

12. October 2006 | Category News | Comments Off

Hi everyone! I’m Zoe, the CEO (Canine Executive Officer) at Canines Unleashed. My mom, Ann, created Canines Unleashed for me because she loves me so much. Well that, and I was destroying our house when she wasn’t home. She figured there were lots of people out there just like her who wished they had a place where their kids could go to play during the day. She was right! It’s been four years now and I have so many other kids to play with that it’s unbelievable!

Now we have this brand new website and my mom gave me my very own column! I call it “Zoe’s Chronicles” and I’ll be reporting all the scoop on all the poop here at Canines Unleashed. Keep checking back so I can tell you what we’re doing while all you grown-ups are at work.

Paws and kisses,

Zoe
